Marine ecosystems are crucial to life on Earth, providing oxygen, food, and regulating climate. However, human activities have increasingly threatened these systems, leading to significant changes in marine biodiversity and health. This project will explore how human actions impact marine life, the consequences of these actions, and possible solutions to mitigate the damage.
Objective: Your group will be in charge of teaching the class about one of the ways humans are impacting marine life and offer a solution or mitigation strategy to the problem. Your group will teach a short lesson about your topic (20-25 minutes) then create a game or an activity that emphasizes your topic. Each person in your group should be able to answer questions about your topic.
Your lesson must include the following:
An overview of your type of pollution
Specific areas/ecosystems of the world most impacted
Important Statistics
Economic and ecological consequences
Current mitigation strategies
Potential solutions
Human Impacts:
Chemical pollution (oil spills and chemical runoff)
Plastic Pollution
Ocean Acidification
Eutrophication
Overfishing
Habitat destruction
Deep sea mining
You will be graded on the thoroughness of your presentation, the clarity of the information, and your ability to keep your classmates engaged.
